Shanghai (Surprise, I've got blue eyes), 48cm x 70cm
I have mixed memories of the short time I spent in Shanghai. One impression was while hearing a BBC broadcast on a Chinese taxi driver's radio which I found serendipitous. While listening to the programme harp on about the importance of China to continue in its efforts to grow economically and double-down on production, the view I saw from the window of the taxi (while wearing a mask in fact, which I got given for free at a bar which branded itself on the city's devastating air quality called, Dr. Pollution) I saw columns of identical buildings disappearing into the endless smog.
